RHIANNON JOHN


Rhiannon studied law at Cardiff University, where she was also awarded a distinction in her Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC). She completed her training contract with a Bristol-based firm, where she was promoted to the position of Associate three years after qualification, the earliest point permitted by the practice.

She has acted for both claimants and respondents, representing her clients in a variety of claims, including unfair dismissal, all types of discrimination, TUPE, whistleblowing and breach of contract. Rhiannon has experience of advising both employers and employees on a range of legal issues, including TUPE, the management of grievances and performance issues, absence management, restructuring/redundancy, restrictive covenants and the employment-related elements of corporate transactions. At MDJ, Rhiannon continues with her dual practice.

Some of her achievements with us to date include:-

  • Successfully winning a tribunal claim for a claimant client, achieving recovery of full costs from the opponent
  • Securing a five figure settlement for a claimant client who was previously threatened with costs if the claim was not withdrawn
  • Managing a large-scale restructure process which resulted in no appeals and no tribunal claims
  • Securing a high value settlement in a disability discrimination claim against a local authority
  • Drafting an appeal document, resulting in an employer overturning a gross misconduct dismissal for our client, enabling her to return to employment; and
  • Managing a sickness absence process for a business, resulting in the employee exiting with no settlement, and no tribunal claim.

In her spare time, Rhiannon enjoys swimming, reading and spending time with her two young children.
